I’m One Month Old!

Can you believe I’m one month old?! Mommy keeps telling Daddy she can’t believe it! Doesn’t seem like a month to me either- I’ve done a lot of sleeping through everything!

Today Mommy got me all dressed up (with nowhere to go, might I add!) and took my pictures. She’s so funny because she put on a “casual” outfit and a “dressy” one. She also kept saying funny things like “smile with your eyes, Rory!”… like I know what THAT means! She makes funny noises when she wants me to smile but I don’t fall for that!

This is me in my casual outfit. Notice how its getting a little too small- thats because its a Newborn size and I can barely fit in those anymore!

Mommy forgot to put in a bow, but I was getting angry so she gave me my paci to make me feel better.

And now for the “dressy” outfit. I loved kicking around in this dress. Its a 0-3 month size and fits so good! Mom says that I’m her “chunky monkey”. It doesn’t hurt my feelings because Mom and Dad say chubby babies are the cutest!

Here’s me hanging out with my friends. My Papa gave me this bunny when he came to meet me for the first time. The Bear is from my Grandma and Grandpa. I love my stuffed animal friends! (sorry I’m a little cross-eyed, I’m still learning to focus)

I’m still a good baby, if I do say so myself! I sleep pretty good for Mom and Dad and I’m on a good schedule. I’m eating more and more so that I can grow big and strong. I love my swing, but I get really mad when the music goes off! I also LOVE taking walks outside with Mom during the day! I look forward to the weekend all week long so that I can have lots of time with Dad!

(not-so) Wordless Wednesday: 7 Years Ago ;)

Okay, sorry, I just can’t do this “Wordless Wednesday” without words!

Seven years ago this week (someone had to remind me, I’m not that good, ha!) my senior class went to Maui and the trip ended up changing my life forever. For those of you who don’t know, Andy and I started talking (literally… we’d never talked before hardly, haha!) and dating on this trip. So here are some pictures of the beginning of our life together. Funny how we had NO IDEA it would be a “forever” type of thing 😉

This picture is our first night in Maui, and the first time Andy and I ever sat next to eachother (we’re on the right). HA HA! Look how nervous we were. So cute.

Our first couple-y picture- on the beautiful beach. (He asked me to prom on this same beach!)

Snorkeling and getting a little more comfortable with eachother. This picture is pretty cute/hilarious to me!

We went on a dinner cruise one night… it was so fun and Andy was so cute to want to be with me even if it meant being with these OTHER crazies. HAHA!

(and wait are we HOLDING HANDS UNDER THE TABLE???!!!! hehe)

Definitely a couple now… look how happy we look! (and yes I’m wearing a dress…)

Sometimes it feels good to just be all out sappy doesn’t it?! I just can’t believe it was seven years ago. I’m dying to go back to Maui to relive it all there again. Maybe 10 year anniversary??!!

love/hate relationship with Paula Deen

I mean, who DOESN’T love Paula Deen?! Well I know who- my legs and butt! haha! I’ve started watching HGTV and Food Network all day, and I do mean ALL day its on. I always try to catch Paula‘s show now. Last week she cooked “Mexican Chicken” and I decided to try it out. And SUCCESS! It was wonderful and Andy loved it too. Huge accomplishment! 🙂 So here is the recipe for this “Tempt My Tummy Tuesday”!

1 10 3/4 -ounce can cream of chicken soup
1 10 3/4 -ounce can cheddar cheese soup
1 10 3/4 -ounce can cream of mushroom soup
1 10-ounce can tomatoes
1 whole chicken, cooked, boned, and chopped or 4 cups leftover cooked chicken (Note: I just used chicken breasts and boiled them and seasoned the water with pepper and a little salt)
11 1/2-ounce package flour tortillas
2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, stir together the three kinds of soup and the tomatoes. Stir in the chicken.

In a greased 13 x 9- inch pan, layer the tortillas and the chicken mixture, beginning and ending with tortillas. Sprinkle the cheese over the casserole and bake for 30 minutes.

Servings: 8 servings
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 30 min

Recipe Time!

I’ve decided that at least once a week (thats all I can commit to right now!) I’m going to research, cook, eat, and then write about one recipe/meal a week. This is partly for something new and fun to add to the blog, and partly because I need to get more creative with our meals! I saw on Glenna’s blog a while ago a “Tempt My Tummy Tuesday”, so for now I’ll use that and do the recipes on Tuesdays!

“Krystal” Burgers

What you need:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • two cans of croissants
  • mustard
  • pickle relish
  • chopped onions (frozen are fine)
  • cheese (I used shredded cheddar, whatever you want to use is fine)
  • Note- if you don’t like onions or pickles, you can make this dish without. I’ve had it both ways and its great either way! The cheese is optional too, but we LOVE cheese in our family so that is a must for us!

  • Brown meat. Drain.
  • If you are using frozen onions, pop them in a skillet and heat them up/cook through a little.
  • Spray/grease a square or rectangle pan. Preheat oven according to directions on croissant package. (Don’t have any in my fridge to tell you, sorry!)
  • Roll out one can of croissants on bottom of pan.
  • On top of croissant bottom, spread out the browned meat.
  • Evenly spread out your pickles/relish and onions.
  • On top of that put desired amount of mustard.
  • Put on desired amount of cheese.
  • Roll out second can of croissants on top.
  • Bake according to croissant directions- its not long, about 10 minutes or so just to heat everything through.
  • Cut into small squares and serve.

I promise they taste just like Krystal burgers! And I will say that I didn’t feel as yucky after eating this than I did the one time I actually ate real Krystal burgers! My mom made these when she was here after Rory was born, so thats where I got the recipe from.

Let me know if you make it and how you liked it!

all about baby…

I’ve been trying to get creative and write a blog that doesn’t have anything to do with little Rory. Well… its near impossible. My brain is still a big ball of mush from having a baby and the only thing I’m focused on is feeding, changing diapers, cleaning bottles, etc. So for today there is no creative post about anything and certainly not a post without talking about baby. Soon I hope to be at least half way back to myself and get creative!

This weekend it was GORGEOUS outside and a warmer 60 degrees. Andy and I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to take Rory out for the first time since her first doctor visit. I was a nervous wreck but many people told me it’d be fine (I think I asked EVERYONE when they took their baby out for first time, ha!) so off we went to Home Depot! (I decided Home Depot was the perfect starting point since there would be minimal amounts of people wanting to look at/touch baby- it is a “man store” after all!) Rory slept the entire time and I kept her covered up. No one even tried to get a look at her! We bought a new ceiling fan for the living room and a new light fixture for our entry way. I’ll post pictures of before/after as soon as we get them put up!

On Saturday night, we had our friends Josh and Carly over for dinner and played the Wii. It was such a fun time and I am so very thankful for new friends so quickly here. Carly came over a couple of times during the day last week and she’s keeping me from going insane inside the house! Then on Sunday night we all went out to eat and we had our first restaurant experience with Rory…. and she slept the entire time again! We timed all these outings perfectly so that she was full and happy.

Rory in her car seat ready to go to Home Depot with Mom and Dad!

I don’t want to brag….

but this kid of mine is pretty stinkin’ awesome.

(Note: I realize this could change, so I’m ‘knocking on wood’ as I’m saying all of this.)

Ever since the day she was born she has had a sense of schedule. Every 3 (now 3-4) hours she wants to eat- its almost by the minutes. She eats around 10 or 11 at night and then sleeps until 2 or 3 in the morning and then again about 6. So that technically means she only wakes up ONE TIME in the night. ONCE, people!

The only time she ever cries is when she’s hungry, dirty or has a bath. I told my mom when she was here that I worried because she never cried. She laughed. I can put her in/on her little Boppy and she will put herself to sleep just kicking and making little grunts.

If I could be sure that all of our babies would be like Rory, I’d have six! ha! I’m now scared to death to ever have another child because what if they are like normal babies and cry and fuss and not sleep at night?! 🙂

In other news… I’m getting a little cabin fever crazy. There is only so much cleaning/ washing/ tv watching that a person can do! Andy said he will keep the baby for me to go out and shop this weekend and I’m so excited!

And one last note: did I mention how AMAZING my husband is??!!! On his days off he lets me sleep in and takes care of her in the mornings. When he comes home he grabs her up and snuggles her. I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful he is with her. He hasn’t had any experience with babies but you’d never know. He’s so confident with her and it melts my lil’ heart!

loving on Rory

Basically all I’ve been doing for the past 11 days is recovering and loving on sweet Rory. My mom came down and stayed a week to help me with the baby and then Andy’s parents came this past weekend. I will say that today I’ve been so excited about the quiet empty house and getting Rory all to myself!

I want (for myself and if anyone else is interested, great!) to write out a very non-graphic version of her birth so that I can look back and remember for years to come. I wrote a mini version in her baby book and will do a little longer one here!

On Tuesday, Feb 9, I went to the doctor and she decided to induce me that Thursday. We were excited and nervous and ready-ish. We went on a date that night to a wonderful Italian place here in town and had a great time together. Wednesday morning I woke up with a couple of contractions and said goodbye to Andy early that morning. And then within five minutes, literally, I was hit with terrible shaking/chills and major contractions. I took a bath then got back in bed and thought I’d wait it out and they’d go away but they didn’t. At this point I felt paralyzed because of the chills and I couldn’t control my muscles and they were just shaking. Thats when I decided to call Andy. Well………. I called, and called, and called… you get the picture?!!!! Nothing. So after waiting three to four hours I texted my new friend here Carly and asked her to please try and tell her husband (who was with Andy at work) to tell my husband that he probably needed to answer the phone because I was in labor. (I’m sure I wasn’t that nice but whatever.) Andy finally got the message and booked it home.

We got to the hospital early afternoon and they took my temp and it was up to about 102, which isn’t good for a pregnant person especially. So lots of blood work, tests, etc and none of it was telling us anything about what was wrong with me. It felt like the flu x 100, but I tested negative for that. Around midnight they finally decided I couldn’t deliver a baby until I was well (there was NO WAY I could have done it at that state) and let me eat for the first time in 24+ hrs. They hooked me up to IVs and penicillin and I finally was relieved and could sleep. And I did just that all day Thursday as well.

On Thursday night they gave me the news that I would be more than likely having a baby on Friday but my hemoglobin was extremely low so it was ultimately up to the anesthesiologist. At this point I’m ready to get this over with and get out of the hospital! So Friday morning I met with the anesthesiologist and he, thank the Lord!, decided to let me go ahead with labor as long as I signed off on a blood transfusion if needed.

They started the pitocin drip around 10:00 that morning and broke my water around noon. I really wanted to try to do with out an epidural but after being so sick I knew there was no way my weak body could have done without it. So around 4 to 5, I got my epidural and from there progressed very rapidly and felt oh-so-good. At 7:15 ish, it was time to push and at 8:00 exactly, she was here!

We both had a little fever after delivery, so we ended up having to stay two more days to make sure everything was okay. They were also observing me to make sure I didn’t lose too much blood.

Five days in the hospital was way too many for me! I was so thankful to come home to our wonderful home!

Introducing Rory

Here is a little slideshow I created of the first few days of Rory. All but a couple at the end were taken in the hospital. She’s so precious and we are so proud to be her parents! Enjoy the slideshow!
