The Big Reveal: New Kitchen

Finally, finally, finally! We are done! Are you ready for this?!!!!

I’ll start by refreshing your memory of the old kitchen. I thought I had better pictures and am mad at myself for not taking more before pictures of the kitchen. These are pictures from our home inspection that we took before we moved in.

And here is the new and improved, oh-so-beautiful kitchen!!!!!!

How do you like it?! Any comments, suggestions, etc are more than welcome! I’d love to hear what you think!

look! no hands!

So yesterday I told all of you about how wonderful the Paris Baby store is… truly wonderful. The main reason I went into this store is because I wanted to see if they had any baby slings. It seems that everytime I decide to cook supper, eat supper, clean, etc, the little stinker decides its time for Mommy to hold her. Well, you all know how hard this can be and having only one hand or no hands means you can’t do anything. So! I found the Sleepy Wrap at Paris Baby. OH. MY. WORD. Its AMAZING.

You see, Rory likes to be held tightly belly to belly when she’s sleepy. And you don’t get more belly to belly than in the Sleepy Wrap! So I put her in it for the first time and she was just looking up at me like, “whoa Mom, this is so relaxing,” then promptly fell asleep.

So I thought I’d demonstrate all sorts of things I can do now that I have two hands again!

Vacuuming! I actually vacuumed the entire house while she soundly slept in the wrap.

Cooking!

(Ignore the actual dinner next to me, please.)

Unloading the dishwasher!

Blogging!

And my personal favorite- Playing Wii!

(Note: She looks like her neck is breaking. I kept trying to fix it to where it wasn’t leaning back like this but she kept moving back in that position and was so comfortable. Her neck is definitely supported. No babies were harmed during this!)

(Note #2: Obviously you can tell in these pictures I hadn’t ACTUALLY gotten around to cleaning yet. So, don’t judge the messiness. We’re currently redoing our kitchen which means the entire house seems to be a mess.)

Adventures with The Big Bow: Day 2

So I must admit- I’m not a true southerner for a couple of reasons. #1: Rory is 11 weeks old and I just bought her a true southern big bow yesterday. #2: While I think they are cute in pictures of my friend’s babies, I’m not a huge fan. I don’t know why but I’m just not.

But all of my friends who have gorgeous little girls, including my not-so-southern friend Kristen, have all these cute pictures with their girls in big southern bows. And they really are so cute. So I found this amazing baby boutique called Paris Baby and its not your normal insanely expensive store. Well they had cheap bows with a head wrap and I gave in to The Big Bow.

(Side note: Another reason why I gave in to The Big Bow is because my friend Carly here in Texas has repeatedly told me that my baby is not a Texas baby until I get a big bow. And honestly, every where we go and see babies they have huge bows and I want my kid to fit in right?!)

So here is Rory oh-so-happy in The Big Bow. And man, she looks so darn cute in The Big Bow!

And how adorable is this outfit?!!!! My sweet friend Holly gave it to her, among a bunch of other SO cute outfits!

here we go again

Andy and I enjoy moving and starting new adventures. We’ve done it a lot so I’m guessing its a good thing we’ve enjoyed it, ha! The one thing that IS hard though- actually its THE hardest thing about moving- is finding a new church. So here we go again on the Great Church Hunt.

I’ve been brought up as a pastor’s child so I realize I’m extremely picky. Andy points this out everytime we go to church and afterwards I say things like “I wish they did this or that like my Dad”. Yes, I know its wrong. Yes, I know my Dad is a super star preacher and its extremely hard to find someone as amazing as he is. Yes, I realize I’m a little biased to my awesome dad. Yes, I have to just get over it and learn to enjoy other pastors and churches and not compare. I mean, come one, I’ve been out of my dad’s church for almost six years- you’d think I’d be over it by now! But everytime we move and start looking for churches the same thing happens and I start to compare. Even though its wrong. I’m trying to change, I really am.

Let me tell you something though. Even though we didn’t really like the church we went to this past Sunday, I realized how nice it was to leave Rory in the nursery. I know, I know. Call me a bad mom, I don’t even care! We have ZERO babysitters here and when we left her with three grandmothers in the nursery it was wonderful. We went into the sanctuary and sat down in the pew and both sighed and just relaxed. Andy put his arm around me and said, “Well, this is kinda like a date.” HA! How pathetic are we?! It was fantastic to sit for an hour and a half (yes it was long.) and not have to worry one bit about her crying in church or about the quality of care. Sigh. Just Wonderful.

Here is me and Rory all ready for church- her dress is way too short for church but she had to wear that dress before she grew out of it! 🙂

sorry its the best picture we got- she was busy looking at the ceiling fan

In other news- the wallpaper in the kitchen is GONE! What’s that?! Y’all want a picture of the pink hearts so that you can cringe a little???

Goodbye pink hearts and pink plaid! This next weekend we’re going to be painting and I am SO ready. Next week I’ll reveal the new kitchen! We’re also painting the living room and office, but we aren’t doing those until the kitchen is completely done.

Happy Bloggers!

My fantastic friend, Amber, nominated me for a “happy blogger” award. And might I just say- reading Amber’s blog seriously makes me happy! You REALLY need to check it out! Its such a fun blog and she has THE CUTEST little boy EVER, Will. I’m hoping Rory and Will meet and fall in love (like in their 30’s!). Just sayin’. HA!

random dozen

So I’m a blog stalker- of course, thats not news to any of you… I’ve told you before. Anyways, I found this “random dozen” on a couple of blogs I like and thought it’d be a fun little thing to do. And let’s face it- I need some help on creative ideas these days because of my serious lack of sleep!

1. Ever had any run-ins with the “library police?”

Eh, not necessarily. Just some “shhh’s” and dirty looks 🙂 Who knew the library wasn’t for visiting with friends (or random strangers because you are avoiding studying THAT much… just sayin’)!

2. Do you have a special organizational plan and place for wrapping paper, gift bags, etc., or do you just purchase whatever you need as you give gifts?

Yes. I have a big bag that I fold all gift bags nice and neatly in. Its really not that organized.

3. Have you ever been in (first-hand witness) a natural disaster?

We’ve lived through a couple of hurricanes. And we’ve lived in the aftermath of Katrina. Count?

4. What’s your favorite Barry Manilow song?

Not a huge fan. I’m not from Jersey. ha!

5. What’s the best costume you’ve ever worn?

Our Sunday School class in Starkville (oh how I miss it!) had a “Famous Couples” party one year for Halloween. Andy and I went as Beyonce and Jay-Z. It was AMAZING. Ask my friends who were there- it was beyond hilarious.

6. Which do you use more often, the dictionary or the thesaurus?

Dictionary. Wait- does Wikipedia count?

7. What’s your favorite breakfast food?

I love a good omelet. My favorite is Pepperjack cheese, green bell peppers, and sausage. Now… can I hire a cook so I can have this every morning??

8. Have you ever purchased anything from an infomercial?

No, but only because my mom is so addicted to it and I’m scared to start. Wait, I take that back. I ordered some stuff before I got married and still lived with my parents. I could never get away with it living with Andy.

But dang, I want a Magic Bullet SO BAD!

9. Have you ever crawled through a window?

Yes. I get locked out a lot.

10. Do you believe in love at first sight?

Nah.

11. How man pairs of jeans do you own?

probably seven. I just had a baby- two fit.

12. If someone were going to bake a cake to honor/represent you, what would it be? (Think creatively, like Duff and Crew on “Ace of Cakes.”)

I just want a huge chocolate cake w/ cream cheese icing. Can I have that now, please?

always changing

This little girl seems to change every day right before my eyes! I’m absolutely loving getting to be at home to witness all the new and fun things she’s discovering and doing.

Like this picture of her sitting up so well in her Bumbo! Can you even believe how big she is?!

Or this picture where, on Saturday, she discovered the TV for the first time! Oh dear! She looks just like her dad huh?! (P.S. She never watches tv and I don’t put her in front of it because let’s get real- the child has a lifetime of TV ahead of her… she doesn’t need to watch it right now!)

Which brings me to the real reason I’m writing this post. My phone has stayed on silent since Rory was born 24/7 pretty much. (In fact most of the time I don’t even know where it is- like right now! I actually “lost” it in the fridge for a whole day recently. Yes, the fridge.) Its not because I’m afraid of waking the baby because everyone who has been around her knows she can sleep through anything. Honestly the phone, internet, etc, is the very last thing on my mind during the days at home w/ little miss. I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to stay at home with Rory and the last thing I want to do is take that for granted and be on the phone or internet all day. I literally soak up every second she is awake and happy. We play, sing, read books, and cuddle together. I love it. And its also my job- taking care of her and the house. The days that I’m on the phone or internet I feel guilty at the end of the day for not being attentive to her. I feel like I’m going to miss something new and fun. But at the same time if I don’t call people back because I simply forget or don’t have the time, I’m made to feel guilty about that too(because thats what we women do, make ourselves/others feel guilty about not doing EVERYTHING just right or on time… we are way too hard on ourselves and eachother!).

So I’m sorry if I have failed to be a good friend/family member. Its in no way intentional. I seriously don’t even know why I have a phone most days. And I open the computer once a day at the very most. As I’m typing this I should be napping while she naps or doing the huge list of housework that needs to be done. I know I’m not giving 100% to those relationships all the time. But I’m giving 100% to my husband and to my sweet little Rory and I can end the day knowing that with a smile on my face.

I’ve been feeling the need to write this post for a couple of weeks but last week after my surgery I literally did not use my phone at all. Except for the days that I was so drugged up and I don’t even remember conversations that I have been told happened! ha!

And who would want to miss out on something as cute and sweet as Rory?! 🙂 Love all of you! I’m so glad I can have this blog to stay in touch and update you on things going on in the Harris’ house.
