Remember that time I wrote for a blog called The Harris Life and it was so fun and I posted all the time?
Remember that time I had a goal to write more?
Remember that time I realized I’m a complete failure when I looked back and am shocked to realize I haven’t posted since FEBRUARY?!!!!!!!!!!
Well. Now we can all remember all of these things.
What happened to me?!
Well, I’m gonna save the “deep” stuff for another post.
Today I will just tell you that life is so busy and I am not good at sitting down at a computer anymore and organizing my thoughts. I feel like every second is taken up by something and then I fall into bed after the kids bedtime and either binge on Friends or The Office, or I fall fast asleep until a kid decides to creepily wake me up.
See. Some things will never change. My kids are still waking me up by staring at me from the side of the bed, blowing in my face, or just coming up to my side of the bed and yelling random things at the top of their lungs…..
for example (picture a kid standing next to the bed in the pitch black and silent house):
“MAMA! I HAVE EYE BOOGERS!”
“MAMA! I THINK MAYBE I DIDN’T WIPE GOOD ENOUGH TODAY!”
“MAMA! DID YOU KNOW THAT PLUTO ISN’T A PLANET BUT MAYBE IT IS AGAIN?! CAN YOU GOOGLE THIS FOR ME REAL QUICK SO I CAN KNOW IF IT IS A PLANET OR NOT AND CAN GO BACK TO SLEEP?!”
“MAMA! I HAD A NIGHTMARE THAT I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO SCHOOL AGAIN, PLEASE TELL ME YOU WON’T HOMESCHOOL ME!’
“MAMA! I JUST NEEDED TO TELL YOU THAT I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH THAT I COULDN’T EVEN STAY IN MY BED ALL NIGHT!”
Yes, these are actual things that have been said to me in the middle of the night the past few weeks of summer.
It is summer, y’all! All three of us are living in our bathing suits and top knots! I’ll spare you a pic of me in my bathing suit but LOOK HOW ADORABLE THESE CHICKEN NUGGETS ARE!
Ryder graduated from Kindergarten! She had the best year ever! I could not have asked for a better year. Her teacher was amazing and the class was the sweetest, spunkiest class ever. I miss seeing their sweet faces every week so much. I can’t believe I don’t have Kindergarteners to AR test anymore. Maybe the K teachers will still let me come and test for them next year, ha! She’s so excited about going to 1st grade! She’s still so spunky. Friends flock to her – she has that contagious personality that everyone wants to be around. She still is completely obsessed with her mama. Sometimes too obsessed, ha! I’m so proud of how hard she worked this year and what an awesome girl she is!
Rory made it through 1st grade with flying colors! She made straight A’s on the last two report cards! Man, y’all… I can’t even tell you how proud I am of my girl. From the start of the year to the end she was a different kid, but in the best ways. She became so much more confident and had so much more self control. Rory is a dream- A DREAM- at age 7. I can’t even begin to tell you. She is so extremely helpful. She’s seriously so compassionate to others and so kind. I’m so proud of her and the amazing big girl she has become.
We are loving summer so much! Except we are having issues with fighting …. meaning those two heifer daughters of mine won’t quit with the fighting. Ryder is mean. I know its hard to believe, but for real, she’s got a mean streak when it comes to her sister especially. And Rory is so sensitive she can’t handle Ryder being a turd. So she tattles.
It is about to do me in.
So I created a new motto in our house- IF YOU FIGHT, YOU CLEAN.
Needless to say, my house is SUPER clean.
If any of you have suggestions on how to nip this in the bud I would so appreciate it.
The good news is that after a week of zero tv and cleaning until they can’t handle themselves anymore- things are looking up! ha! I just keep reminding them that “kindness always wins” and also that I won’t be their referee.
We’ve been having a blast though! The first week of summer we went to the river with Andy’s family where the kids fished for hours each day and had a blast. We ended the week in Mississippi with my family.
The second week we went on a mini-vacation to Gatlinburg and it was THE BEST TIME EVER. We aren’t going to the beach this summer so we decided while Andy had some extra time off we would take full advantage. We stayed at Black Fox Lodge and I couldn’t recommend it enough there! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about our stay. The room was so perfect, all the amenities were! And the breakfast was awesome! Of course, the girls’ favorite part was their amazing pool! They loved every second of our hotel stay! I remember a few years ago the thought of staying in a hotel for several days with the girls seemed like a nightmare- and it WAS a nightmare to stay at a hotel. Now it is such a fun treat for them and for us! It just gets better all the time!
While we were there we went to Splash Country. Y’all know how much we love Dollywood- well, I can’t believe I’m saying this but we may love the water park even more! Families of all ages and stages will love it. It has something for everyone!
The other big thing we did was visit Cade’s Cove. I thought the girls might like it, but didn’t anticipate their insane over-the-top love for it! They were 100% enthralled and committed to learning everything there was to know about how people lived “in the olden days”. ha! We saw all kinds of wild life too- several bears, deer so close we could have touched it, and other various things like snakes and rabbits and 5 trillion butterflies. (Side note: My kids are convinced Dolly Partner released all the butterflies in Gatlinburg area because she loves them so much. THEY ARE THE CUTEST.) I know my sweet Granddaddy would have been tickled to pieces with them at his favorite place on earth.
The rest of the time was spent at the pool, shopping, eating amazing food, and playing putt putt! It was such a much needed getaway and seriously the best time. Now I cannot stinking wait for our next adventure!
What else is new????
Well, Andy started a new job! He’s now a Corporate Engineer for Shaw Flooring. So far its been such an amazing change and I’m praying hard it continues that way. He is happier than he’s been in a long time. We are so thankful God has always provided for us in our marriage and He has continued to bless Andy’s hard work by moving him up and giving him amazing opportunities.
Oh! We celebrated 13 years of marriage! And he wasn’t on outage! Shocking, yes?! So I last minute grabbed a babysitter so we could actually go on a date!
As for me, I turned 32. We spent the day by the pool with my girls as per usual, which is totally the best way to spend a birthday if you ask me! Then we went to eat dinner as a family. And then some of my friends and I went to the movies and laughed and laughed. It was good for the soul. Oh, and I got glasses. Apparently my vision is bad and I didn’t even know it. Is anyone surprised by this?!
Ok. I think we have caught up enough for one day. I am so thankful for my summers with the girls- I just can’t even tell you. We love school and all that comes with it but I stinkin’ LIVE for summer with my girls.
Happy Friday, y’all!
