Category: Rory Eve

So I had hyped myself up thinking that because we are coming up on the one year mark of  Ryder’s surgery I’d be in this major funk and would be weepy and sad about it.

But, truth is, I’ve barely thought about it.

It’s funny how life gets in the way of things.

We have been going non-stop lately and I haven’t been able to pause and think much about how hard last year was. And honestly, Ryder is doing so well right now that it is hard to believe the things we went through and had to endure.

When I do have a moment of quiet to think, I’m distracted by other things like loneliness or sadness over things going on around me in other people’s lives.

Although I’m not struggling with insecurities and identity as much as I was, I am still struggling with loneliness. I desperately miss my friends and church and life in Paris. I know it will get better as soon as I find people here, but it has been hard.

The kids are my main distractions though, and for that I am so grateful.

Ryder is walking around the furniture like crazy and starting to take steps out on her own. I can’t even believe she will be walking soon. She is Rory’s biggest fan and thinks her big sister is HILARIOUS, which is true. She is eating pretty good and hopefully the bottle will be going away very soon. I can’t wait to have that extra cash to throw into something else like bills. ha! She is saying more words now- “dis” (this), “doooh” (dog), her version of bottle, dada, momma, no, stop, don’t, “Jers” (Jersey), “ni-ni” (night night)… and more that I can’t think of right now.

Rory is just so big. I can’t get over it. She’s looking so tall and old all of a sudden. She’s still smart as a whip. She NEVER forgets ANYTHING. She’s also so hysterical. Some of my favorite things she says right now are- “I go do ____ tomorrow.”. Anything she wants to do, she says she’s going to do it tomorrow very matter of factly. “What’s happenin’?”, “Whatcha doin’?”, “Where?”, “What’s that?”, “What’s her/him name?” are CONSTANTLY asked around here. We recently started rewarding her with money to put in her bank so that when it fills up she can go pick something out. So, she now constantly asks, “Wherrr my quarter at?!”, whenever she does something she thinks is worthy of a reward. It has actually been working out really well. Soon I will do a whole post of just Rory-isms.

And, I’m glad to report that Rory is this close to being potty trained. Today she went the entire day without going in her pull-up at school. She loves her “pannies” and thinks she has to wear them at home now so that has been such a plus.

And if she is wearing “pannies” then sister has to wear them too.

Hope y’all had a great day! Tomorrow I will post all about our week and try and catch up more.

Tonight I shall go to bed because it has been an EXHAUSTING day of driving, car buying, and more driving.

But, man, I love my new ride.

a Thursday post.

It is Thursday, if you didn’t know this already, which means I’m having a “mommy free day”. I have been loving these days lately because I can clean, nap, watch TV that I wouldn’t watch in front of the kids (hello Real Housewives and the Kardashians and mine and Andy’s new favorite, Honey Boo Boo!), and take long, hot showers.

Andy is probably going to be real sad when I get friends because I have been keeping this house CLEAN, y’all. Granted, I clean for hours and the two tornadoes whip through and mess it all up, but I’m like vacuuming every day, sometimes twice a day. The laundry is always caught up and put up. The dishes are mostly always clean.

I have been a cooking machine. I’ve been cooking so much that I’ve decided one day next week I will share some recipes with y’all.

Go ahead, drop your jaw in awe and shock. It won’t hurt my feelings.

Tonight I’m cooking HOMEMADE pizza. I even made the crust Tuesday night and have been letting it sit and be glorious just for tonight.

Oh, yes I did.

Just call me super mom, thankyouverymuch.

Maybe if I start posting recipes and get a little crafty and all fancy like my mom will claim me as her favorite blogger again.

Oh, I didn’t tell you?

Since being in Tennessee I have found out that my mom has another favorite blog.

In fact, she’s been calling it  THE blog.

For example: She says to me, “Tiff, did you see what was on the blog today?”. I’m all like…. ?????? I didn’t blog today ??????

Oh, no ma’am. She’s not talking about me, her favorite daughter. (ha.)

She’s talking about another blogger, who I admit is totally fabulous and amazing.

Whatever, mom. I can handle it.

Another reason I am super mom is because I actually got some pictures of the kids.

Since I decided to enter Ryder into the Gerber baby contest (and Rory!) I wanted to get some cute pictures of her.

Let me tell you something that you probably have already picked up on about Ryder.

She is a mess.

I’ve never seen any kid in the world with as many expressions and faces as her. The kid is hilarious. She will make the craziest faces and each and every one describes exactly what she is feeling or thinking.

So I took all these pictures of her and seriously had 108 pictures that were cute and hilarious because of her expressions.

None of them are smiley cheesy pictures and I love that.

You are welcome for the cuteness overload that is about to hit you.

And how could you say “no” to these hands????

She was actually making them at Rory, which is just precious. So Rory came over and sat with her and all was right in the world.

These kids are little BFF’s. True, they fight some and are too rough with each other for most of the day, but they also play so well together and just love on each other all day.

I wanted to get some pictures of them before school this morning but Ryder had it in her mind that it was time to GO and she wasn’t having it. Rory was actually looking at me and smiling too, which NEVER happens.

Well, I’m off to pick the stinkers up.

Rory and I are going shopping for Andy’s birthday tomorrow before we pick Ryder up.

I tried shopping with her the other day but she was insistent on getting him a bright purple shirt with pink argyle. Which is fine if your husband likes it, but have you met Andy??? He won’t even hardly wear red because he fears it isn’t manly enough.

Happy Thursday!

the haircut.

I’ve been wanting to get Rory’s hair cut for a while- it has been so crazy and unmanageable for forever. Her first haircut was with my sister, Telena, but after her wreck she hasn’t been able to do it. My friend, Maggie, cuts my hair and I was wanting her to cut it but just haven’t been able to work it out. So this weekend I was talking to Telena about it and she told me to just do it myself…. I was pretty skeptical but she showed me what to do and so I decided, why not???

So tonight was the night! I gave Rory a hair cut!

(I told you it was crazy… and usually you can see the massive rat tail she had going on, ha!)

(aaaaaand…. she totally moved and it made me mess up HUGE and I had to start winging it from there… oops. Also, please disregard MY hair… it has been one of those stay-at-home-and-don’t-wash-it days.)

She approved! Haha!

I told her we were cutting her hair “like a princess” to make her not so nervous at the sight of the scissors, so naturally we had to dress up after like a princess!

I still have mixed feelings between loving it (because it NEEDED IT) and being so sad because she officially looks older. Wahhhh! Oh well, I think I did a pretty good job for a last minute thing. And if I see that it looks crazy tomorrow I will just go get it fixed! ha!

As for Ryder….

She’s still her crazy, mohawked, stinker-ish self!

stinkers. plural.

Alright, folks. It has been a while.

I apologize.

But! Good news!

We’re in our new place and I FINALLY have my desktop set up!

So you shall now have lots of entertainment via the Stinkers, Rory and Ryder.

And I want you to know that they are DEFINITELY still stinkers. Probably more so than usual. I blame all the time with the grandparents these past few weeks.

Y’all won’t believe this, but Ryder is actually more of a stinker than Rory these days.

Yes! You read that correctly!

She is a pulling up, “no”-saying fool. She’s into everything and is proud of it.

Those are stinker faces if I’ve ever seen one.

Oh! And she totally ate dirt for the first time. I was praying for a kid who thought things were “yucky” but no such luck apparently.

What have we been up to the past few weeks?

I know you are dying to know.

Well, for starters, we went to the zoo!

And we went swimming almost every day with Telena and her family.

And basically just hung out around my parents’ house all the time. Rory and Ryder LOVED that they could stand and look out of the window at all the birds and squirrels. They just had such a great time staying with their Mimi and Papa.

The only picture I have of them together… I will try harder this week to get some cute pics of them matching and the like again.

So, want to hear a good Stinker story before I go?

Yes, I’m referring to The Original Stinker or Stinker #1.

Last week Andy went out of town on a business trip to Atlanta.

Side note: I’m starting to think he plans these things to happen at the worst times. Seriously! What gives?! We’ve been away from each other for a month already and he has a business trip for a week after that! Maybe I should talk to his boss… HA! Kidding.

On Wednesday, Rory and I were playing in the living room with stickers. I looked away for literally one second to read a text and Rory says, “Wook Mom! I got a sticker in my nose!”.

Well, I look up in there and I don’t see anything. So I thought, with her being two, that she was probably just saying that.

A couple of minutes later, she starts freaking out a little saying she needed to get that sticker out of her nose. So, I start to look in there again and it starts bleeding. I still can’t see it and blood is flowing at a steady pace and I’m trying not to freak out.

Well then it starts REALLY bleeding. I call my mom, Andy, my sister, etc to see what I should do. My mom was the only person I could get a hold of and she said it would come out and to just wait, basically.

After I get off of the phone with my mom, Rory starts saying, “ohhhh it tickle me! It tickle!” and was giggling a lot.

Then all of a sudden she starts sneezing.

She sneezes, no lie, at least 50 times. Blood is coming out every time and I’m trying real hard not to freak out.

Well, Rory gives one final, huge sneeze and BAM!

That dang sticker came out and was SMILING AT ME! The nerve!

So yes, if you were wondering, Rory is still up to her usual antics…

and on top of that I have a one year old named Ryder who is following in her sister’s footsteps and is probably going to give me a run for my money even more than Rory ever did.

These kids.

They are trying to break me.

They are trying to make me squirm.

But, too bad, suckers!

I’m in this for the long haul!

(If you would please pray for my sanity without letting them know, that’d be wonderful. Thank you very much.)

Have a great week!

monday catch-up

Last week started out a little rocky, but we ended up having a great week. Andy had one of his outages so I had to be a single parent, but it was an “easy” outage this time.

We spent a lot of the week and weekend playing outside. Its getting hot, but its not unbearable yet, so I’m trying to be outside with the girls as much as possible before it is! I have discovered that our hot tub is the PERFECT kiddie pool. I turn the heat down to bath water temperature and the kids love it!

Rory was cracking me up the other day because she would only wear her bathing suite like this:

I kept undoing the thong/wedgie and she’d say “NO! MOM! NO! My bathing suit go like this!”, then put it back in place. Ha!

Over the weekend I decided to have a lovely “photo shoot” with my girls at the pond that is in the neighborhood behind our house.

You can guess how well that went. I got about 200 pictures on my camera and only FOUR came out just okay. They just downright REFUSED to look at me the entire time. And I put them on a bench and Ryder kept trying to plunge to her death off of it the entire time so it was just insane.

The things I do for you people. HA!

Yesterday we went to church and I dressed the girls in matching pillow case dresses that my sweet friend from Louisiana, Kayla, made for them. Everyone complimented them and they looked SO CUTE.

Last week and over the weekend I got two videos that are pretty cute. The first one is of Rory and Ryder playing and then Andy gets home. I love it because it shows their reaction perfectly… and yes that is their reaction every day! (This video is 4 minutes long, so its a little longer sorry!- just fyi)

The second is of Ryder getting into trouble. The funny part is that usually she says “no no noooo” back to us while shaking a finger but I didn’t get it on camera. And you get to see Ryder scooting around on her booty!

Hope everyone has a great week!

the water table

I know I promised a post about our trip to Vegas but I totally forgot yesterday. So I will do that tomorrow. Promise!

This weekend when Andy and I were on our way home we stopped at Target for some things we needed and found a water table on sale there. Rory has played with one at her friend, Emma’s, house so I knew she’d love it.

I was right. Its seriously the best $30 I have spent on a toy!

She has played with it every day since getting it and thinks its just the best thing. She loves to take the little water tower apart and put it back together … because she is a little engineer like her daddy. And she loves to poor water out of it all over the place, of course!

She discovered she could put the monkey “to bed” in the leaf thing and swing him and she does this over and over and over now. She was so hilarious doing that.

And, naturally, my little climber had to get IN the water table.

As for Ryder, she’s just a mess these days.

You know that moment when the baby starts getting into everything and makes gigantic messes everywhere and you realize its only just begun? Well I’ve had that moment.

But I’ve also had that moment of “OH HOLY CRAP I HAVE TWO GIGANTIC MESS MAKERS IN A ROW” and there might have been a nervous breakdown involved.

I mean, I’m going to have to go through the terrible two’s TWO years in a row! Somebody call the medic!

Anyways. Back to the little tornado named Ryder.

I always bring a blanket to sit her on outside. And she’s very rarely ever on it. She’s a scootin’ fool, y’all!

Rory shared some of her toys and it was the sweetest thing. She usually says something like, “Wook Wyyyydur! Want it have a turn toys now?”, which is translated to, “Look Ryder! Want to have a turn with the toys now?”. Precious. Those little moments are what keep me going strong around here.

Ryder is pretty fond of making funny faces. Her best ones are the stink-eye and the scrunchie nose.

Scrunchie Nose

And she also likes to say, “talk to the hand”.

Or is that a presidential wave?

Ok, I must go. Rory just ran in with an empty box of Kleenex and its brand new. She says Ryder did it, but thats quite interesting since it was up on the table?

oh, Thursdays

Its Thursday and the girls are at Mother’s Day Out and I’m basking in the silence of my home. Its so very rarely quiet in our house these days so its nice to be here alone.

We’ve had just one of those ‘blah’ weeks that seems to be never ending. The girls both are having some major allergy issues so they haven’t been feeling their usual fantastic selves, but they’ve still been sweet.

Ryder is now into EVERYTHING. She’s going to give me a run for my money just like Rory does. She loves to empty out everything and make the biggest mess she possibly can.

Speaking of messes, yesterday I took Rory to the doctor thinking she was really sick because she has a crazy cough at night. (Turns out its just allergies. Who knew?!)

Anyways. We were in the waiting room and she tooted a little while trying to climb up into the seat next to me. Instead of being quiet about it she puts her hand over her mouth and giggles and says, “Oh gosh! Oh gosh! ‘Cuse me!”.

The child LOVES to point out toots.

Have I ever told y’all that ONE TIME I said, “WHO FARTED?!”, while on a plane from CA to MS when I was two years old? It mortified my parents since they were stuck on the plane with these people for hours.

So they absolutely LOVE that Rory points them out all the time.

Payback is humbling.

And Rory pays me back a lot.

So since we’ve all been having allergy/sinus problems we’ve not been getting ANY sleep this week, of course.

BUT that’s ok because THIS TIME NEXT WEEK we will be in Vegas having a fun kid free few days. Oh how glorious the sleep with be!

Andy’s parents are coming on Monday and we are leaving Tuesday. We are so thankful that we have parents we trust enough and are so nice to let us have time to ourselves.

Oh, and as a thank you to his parents, I decided I’m going to go cold turkey and potty train as soon as we get back while they’re still here.

I figure I will have extra help with Ryder and cleanups and most importantly, more people cheering and doing the “pee pee potty” dance.

They don’t know that yet, though. Aren’t I the best daughter-in-law EVER?!

So its going to be an exciting week! Andy and I need the rest for sure since seriously the ONLY time we get a good night’s sleep is when we get away together.

And we’re calling a re-do on our last trip to Ohio because a) Andy still had to work and had to study for a huge test and b) we got a terrible bout of food poisoning.

If you could see me right now you’d see a giant grin on my face just thinking about sleeping, eating, laying by the pool, sleeping. Ahhhh! I can’t wait!

How about we end this meaningless post with Rory’s ADORABLE school pictures?! Heather from HB Photography took the pictures and they are so cute! Her little girl, Keely, is in Rory’s class and Rory loves her so much!

Anyone else shocked that Rory didn’t strangle the bunny to death?! Anyone? Anyone??

spaghetti and baths

This week I gave Ryder spaghetti for the first time.

To say she loved it would be an understatement of epic proportions.

She couldn’t get it in her mouth fast enough! She ended up eating every single bite and I gave her a lot thinking some of it would be thrown away. It was hilarious to watch her scarfing it down! She’s gotten so good about eating when it comes to real food. Bottles are still a struggle, but what’s new?!

After the spaghetti mess I threw both girls in the tub and gave them a big bubble bath. I tried and tried… and failed and failed to get their picture together. Again, what’s new?

But both girls absolutely loves baths and especially bubble baths so it was a lot of fun!

And as if Rory didn’t look enough like Andy as it is… check her out with a goatee!

I swear they are twins.

Ryder loves the bath too. She’s such a stinker though. She will face dive into the water and thinks its hilarious. She also LOVES to splash Rory and I right in the face.

Don’t let that innocent face fool ya!

She really is a little stinker, just like her big sister! 🙂

How impressive is her scar… or actually, lack of scar?! Isn’t it amazing how faded it is already? Part of me is sad because that’s our battle wound and such a sweet reminder that we WON the battle. But my heart is scarred with it too, so it’ll never leave even after hers fades completely.

Unfortunately, and you can kind of tell from those pictures, Ryder isn’t feeling so hot today. I’m betting my money that she has an ear infection.

And an even bigger bummer is that the ONLY doctor that can see us is the doctor we switched from. So I’m all kinds of nervous about the appointment and trying to figure out what in the world I’m supposed to say when confronted about the whole thing.

I hate confrontation. I was hoping I’d never see the man again for as long as I live! ha! And there’s no chance of him not remembering me because we were up there every single day it seemed like for MONTHS. Plus, hello, how many girl Ryders are there who’ve had heart surgery?! Dear goodness. I’m hoping to just be able to explain in a nice way that he just wasn’t aggressive enough for us and be able to have a nice visit. I LOOOOOVE his nurses so much and have missed them. Seriously, I was up there practically every day so I felt like they were family and that was the hardest part of my decision to move doctors.

We have such a huge weekend planned so I have no choice but to see him so I gotta suck it up and be a grown up I guess. ha!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

I’m back!

Well, it seems as though I’ve taken an unexpected blog break. Honestly, I haven’t had the energy to use my brain enough to put a post together since last week.

Not to mention that I’ve had some major technical difficulties the past couple of days.

So, you’re in for a giant post now.

You’re welcome, Mom.

Since I last bored you with every detail of our life talked to you, we’ve been on playdates, threw baby showers, had a lot of family time, been embarrassed at the WalMart, and went to the doctor.

First up for discussion, playdates.

Last Wednesday, my friend Misty invited us over for a playdate. We let the kids play in the water and they had a blast. Well, all but Ryder anyway. The kids are all older than Rory by a year or two but she fits right in and thinks she’s their size and its so cute. (PS I was going to blog about this last week, but my friend Kayla never blogged about it and therefore I had no pictures because I left my camera at home that day. So really its her fault for my blog break!)

One of the bigger kids that was there brought a frisbee from home and all the kids eyed it all day. Well he sat it down for a minute, so Rory sprung at the opportunity to play with it!

He was not too keen on her plan of sharing and decided to get it back. Well, Miss Little Rory is quite the determined two-year-old and put up a major fight against this six year old. In fact, she almost won! Look at the look of determination in her eyes! ha!

Ryder, on the other hand, hated pretty much the entire playdate.

She hated getting lotion on and being outside in general.

She wasn’t really a fan of her hat.

She was absolutely furious when I put her in the pool.

Needless to say, I think Rory is our tomboy and Ryder’s going to be our girly girl.

At least one of them had fun!

This weekend I helped throw a shower for a sweet friend of mine, Stephanie! It was so much fun! We have been praying for her and John to have a baby for as long as we’ve known them (about two years!) and are so thankful God has answered our prayers! They are going to be wonderful parents!

On Sunday I tried to get pictures of the girls in their cute dresses before church but they were not having it.

So I decided to get just Ryder. Well, she wasn’t into either and just kept pointing that little finger and me and shaking it at me. Little stinker.

On Monday morning we had another playdate at my friend, Angela’s, house! She had all the supplies for us to make homemade sidewalk paint and Rory had so much fun! They also played in the sand and did a bunch of fun stuff. I somehow lost the pictures on my camera of them painting the sidewalk ? who knows what happened.

Ryder DID enjoy this playdate! I put her in Angela’s wagon and she played in there and had a blast the entire time! She relaxed and played and was so cute.

So I’m definitely getting a wagon as soon as I can!

Today I took Rory to the doctor to see what to do about our sleep… or actually our no sleep. So we have a plan of action and hopefully it’ll work!

She was a sweetheart today for sure. She pointed out every letter for Dr. Cutrell today and sang lots of songs.

Oh, and didn’t even call anyone out for tooting which was a first!

My friend Lori kept Ryder while I was at the doctor forever and I’m so thankful for her! I’ve been so blessed with great friends in Paris and I don’t know what I’d do without them!

Happy Wednesday!

PS: Check back tomorrow for a giveaway!
